Sustainable fishing Red gorgonia

In the video you can see a branch of red Gorgonia, Paramuricea clavata, measuring over a meter in length, torn a few days ago from the reef where it was located, lying dying on the muddy seabed. This species and these corals when they manage to reach such dimensions are about a hundred years old. Collecting the coral from the seabed you can still see open and therefore alive polyps.

Symbiosis between hermit crab and anemone

Symbiosis is quite frequent in the underwater world and in recent days we have witnessed one of the most classic forms of symbiosis in our Mediterranean Sea, that between the Hermit Crab (Pagurus bernhardus) and the Hermit Crab Anemone or Actinia (Calliactis parasitica). Squid eggs

In the first dive we found them in what would appear to be the optimal situation, i.e. in a hole near the red Gorgonian (Paramuricea clavata), therefore certainly in an area where a constant flow of current and therefore oxygenation is guaranteed ...

Mediterranean coral reef of Calafuria

Calafuria coral reef near Livorno is one of the most beautiful coastal areas in Tuscany in the stretch from Quercianella to Livorno. Overlooking the sea, this splendid cliff continues its profile even under the sea surface until it reaches a depth of 36 meters, a short distance from the shore, and then rests on a seabed of sandy debris mixed with mud.
