The Anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus) belongs to the class Osteichthyes, subclass Actinopterygii, order Isospondyli, family Cluperidae.
It has a very slender body and can reach a length of 20 cm, a greenish color with reflections Bruno Blackish on the back and silvery white on the belly. A dark band along the hips borders the two colored areas. The maxilla is elongated compared to the lower jaw.
It is a pelagic fish that lives in herds offshore and is very common throughout the Mediterranean.
