Warty Crab Eriphia verrucosa belongs to the class of Crustaceans, subclass Malacrostacei, order Decapod, suborder Branchiuri.

It is a species widespread in the Mediterranean, the Black Sea and the eastern Atlantic. It has an oval or cuoriforme-shaped carapace, up to 10 – 12 cm long, of reddish-brown colour on the back and ivory white on the belly, with finely notched front edge; the claws are sturdy and asymmetrical with black or brown ends.

It has predominantly nocturnal habits.

It is a mainly necrofaga species that feeds, in other words, of dead animals, but also of worms, molluscs and crustaceans. In spring it moves in the areas of surface, in waters less deep than 1 metre, the reproduction takes place between May and June.
