The spawning season stretches for most of the year, but reaches its peak in early summer and early autumn. The females deposit up to 20,000 small eggs, which are placed in gelatinous wraps containing dozens of eggs each. These tubes containing the eggs are fixed to Sea fans, sponges, reefs, to debris and other solid objects, on sandy or muddy bottoms. The incubation period depends on the water temperature and is between 25 days and 45 days.
