Into Octopus Hug

Towards the end of a dive a few meters deep in Mediterranean Sea we met an Octopus vulgaris. The meeting is very common but the behavior of the octopus is rather unusual. After being captured (with his hands and in a non-violent way) he attacked to the diver and let himself be caressed for about 15 minutes, allowing us to take all the pictures and the movies. The octopus then freed itself by disappearing quickly thanks to a puff of ink. abbraccio del polpo

They Octopus have evolved to have large nervous systems and brains. An individual has about 500 million neurons in its body, almost comparable to dogs. They are intelligent enough to distinguish brightness, navigate mazes, recognize individual people, learn how to unscrew a jar or raid lobster traps.
