Flathead grey mullet - Mugil cephalus
In this video we see one of the mullet or mullet species Flathead gray mullet, Mugil cephalus, more common in the Mediterranean Sea. This fish usually lives in flocks consisting of numerous individuals. It is a gregarious species and a prey, so the need to live in a pack. This fish has different habits depending on its size and age.

In the first part of the video we see the young specimens that usually live on the shallows and near the surface where they find nourishment, filtering the sea water and eating algae and plankton.
In the second part, however, we filmed the adult specimens, which frequent deeper waters, generally no more than 20/30 meters deep where they feed on every type of benthic invertebrate and also on decomposing organic material, this time however on the seabed.

In Italy it is also known as Golden mullet, due to the characteristic gold-colored spot near the gill operculum, and represents one of the most common species fished in the Italian maritime tradition and in the countries that overlook the Mediterranean Sea.

Mugil cephalus Linnaeus, 1758, commonly known as mullet, is a fish belonging to the family Mugilidae.
Its range is vast, in fact it lives in all the tropical and warm temperate waters of the world (circumtropical distribution). In Europe it spread north to the Gulf of Gascony. It is a Eurialina species, able to withstand large variations in salinity so that it is regularly found in marine, sweet or brackish waters. It is able to live even in polluted environments, in fact it is frequently found inside ports. He lives in schools (especially the young ones). It is found especially where there are hard bottoms or artifacts but does not disdain even the funds completely soft as long as the water depth is sufficiently low.
