Tentacled blenny (Parablennius tentacularis) is a species of combtooth blenny most commonly found in all parts of the Mediterranean Sea (except the eastern part), in the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea, and the east Atlantic near the coast of Portugal, Spain, Canary Islands, and Morocco south to Guinea.
This species reaches a length of 15 centimetres (5.9 in). Found in brackish waters, in estuaries or deltas, this demersal fish can be found in the sand at the bottom of the water in light vegetation. The adult males guards a suitable spot, which a few females may visit and deposit their eggs, the males fertilizes the eggs and guards them until they hatch.
Distribution and habitat
This species, as well as in the western Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea, lives in the eastern Atlantic Ocean between the Gulf of Gascony to the north and an unspecified point of the African coast to the south.
It lives above all among the rocks rich in sediment, or even among the Posidonia, always at depths not exceeding 10 meters.
Description The supraorbital tentacles are very long (especially in males), fleshy and with some short branches on the back side; they are often held facing forward. The dorsal fin is not incised.
The livery is variable but in any case there are dark ornamentations on the sides with a zig-zag pattern; at the upper end of the dorsal fin there is often a dark spot.
